The TOC for Education Critical Thinking International Conference will be held at Kyoto University on March 23-24, 2024.
We all want to lead fulfilling lives not only for ourselves but especially to enable our children to do so.
The Coronavirus disaster, concerns about climate change and the divisions that occur in various parts of the world are worrisome, impact our well being and makes us more aware that we need the ability to live mindfully together as fellow human beings sharing this planet.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined life skills as the abilities needed to live as a human being at any age and in any cultural society. Life skills are the abilities needed to deal constructively and effectively with the various problems and demands that arise in everyday life." (Adapted from World Health Organization; Life Skills Education in Schools)
One of those life skills they suggest is Critical Thinking. Critical thinking is considered to be a widely accepted educational goal that is fundamentally needed by everyone in order to make and act on informed decisions. The application of critical thinking includes self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective habits of the mind.
At this conference, we will share case studies-- in education and all walks of life created through activities in Japan and 11 international countries on 4 continents-- that demonstrate the unique TOC for Education critical thinking needed to make people’s lives more fulfilling.
Simultaneous interpretation of presentations will be provided.
Keynote speech
Advanced case studies from various countries will be presented.

What is TOC for Education?
TOC for Education is a straightforward dialogue and thinking tool that has been used in educational settings in over 20 countries around the world.
It consists of the following three tools for critical thinking and dialogue.
Branch
The Branch is a tool to help us better understand the connections between events. You can make sense of your decisions by clearly seeing cause-and-effect relationships in the past and future.
Cloud
The Cloud is a tool for resolving your own internal problems and resolving conflicts with others. It allows you to come up with creative solutions instead of dichotomies.
Ambitious
target tree
The Ambitious Target Tree is a tool to help you analyze what it takes to achieve your goals and develop a strategic plan. It gives you the power to approach your goals step by step, even if you don't know where to start.
